Celebrating Boston Marathon Champions

boston podcast Apr 14, 2019

The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and it's a marathon almost everyone has heard of, even if they don't follow running. Running Boston represents dedication, commitment, grit and perseverance--and the runners who make it to the start line in Boston on the third Monday in April each year have poured their hearts into their training.

It's so exciting to be in Boston on race day and for the days leading up to the race, so I wanted to create a special Boston edition of the podcast to bring some of that excitement to everyone--those who are racing, those who are spectating, and those of us who are living vicariously through our favorite runners.

There is so much that we can all learn about what it takes to be a champion in life, at work, with our loved ones, and in sport by studying how champions think, feel and train. No matter if we run, walk, row, cycle, swim or crossfit... the Boston marathon and the people who run it are inspiring.

This episode is dedicated to my friend and client, Stephanie Leibengood, and to my friend Sebastien Durandeu. Years ago, I started a Facebook group as part of Power of Run coaching, and the intent was to give runners who are "crazy about running" a place to chat about all things running. The group turned into a tight-knit community, and several of the members of The Crazies (as we call it) will be in Boston to cheer for Steph and Sebastien.

I asked The Crazies to come on the podcast to share some thoughts for Stephanie and Sebastien. And, I brought in my friend, Bill Williams, who has run Boston twice already, and who qualified multiple times this past fall when he ran four marathons in 41 days. Bill shares some of his stories from past marathons. (Bill also happens to be the co-founder and COO of an incredible organization serving children and families in Central and Western Nebraska.)

We also have some surprise guests who have special messages for Stephanie. (I'll add their names to the notes once our runners have been surprised by this podcast!)

Thank you to Crazies, Jen Carlson Maloney (featured in episode 21), Hope Hyatt, Missy Malone, and Meghan Irvine for helping to create this surprise podcast episode.
